Our first Friends evening was entitled "Chat with Matt" and saw our amazing theorbo player Matthew Wadsworth in conversation with Keith Hobday, (the man who started Norwich Baroque in 2006) about life as blind professional musician. Just how does he negotiate his way around London on the tube with a 6ft theorbo, cope with international travel, memorise 3 hour operas and not brake himself or his instrument in cramped orchestral pits?
Once again with the talented Keith Hobday at the helm, 2018 was the year of "Soiree with Si"... a chance to chat with natural trumpet master, Simon Munday, born in Sheringham and now playing both modern and natural trumpet around the world. What made him him interested in 'the nat'? How do you get it to make a sound at all let alone change pitch?...and how many trumpets did you say you have???
In 2019 we enjoyed "Banter with Bobby", the amazing Bobby (Robert) Howes, king of percussion and especially Baroque. He is also big in the world of children's film and is, quite rightly, recognised as one of the loveliest, most supportive musicians out there.
How fortunate we are to have such lovely people involved with Norwich Baroque. Who will feature in 2020? You will have to wait and see!
